Transformation

"Creativity is a skill that everyone can learn-it is what we call lateral thinking." (Edward De Bono 1970)

The transformations I would like to see in my students is that they no longer afraid of the unknown and be able to embrace the exploration into their creativity and learn through experience. Along with that, I want my students to understand the process of making a stop motion movie. Part of the development will include learning how to create story-boards, backgrounds, and characters. I want my students to be able to develop a storyline that has a purpose and meaning by using their creative writing skills and working through the numerous scenarios that could possibly happen. This project will teach students to be able to decide which scenarios will best express their ideas and receive the desired effect they want to have on their audience in the end.  I want my students to feel confident in using cameras, developing audio documentary, video, and soundtracks. In the end, I want students to be able to bring all of these aspects together to create a cohesive final project.

In the Wiggins McTighe article Understanding by Design is states that, “Evidence of understanding that is transferable involves assessing for students’ capacity to use their knowledge thoughtfully and to apply it effectively in diverse settings—that is, to do the subject (12).” I will be assessing just that—the students’ stop motion videos. The video will show how well students understood the information and put it to use. The students grade will be based on a rubric assess the strengths and weaknesses in each area of the movie. The evaluation and assessments  will be based on Wiggins McTighe Six Facets of Understanding. They will include explanation, interpretation, application, perspective, empathy and self-knowledge.
